Terms of Use

These terms govern access to and use of Charleston County Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its content, or using an available search feature signals acceptance of these conditions. A person who does not agree should stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website is not connected with Charleston County, South Carolina, or any government body. It is not a consumer reporting agency. Neither its content nor partner tools may be used for credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

1. What This Website Is

Charleston County Criminal History is a private reference service. It neither holds official criminal records nor performs official checks or filings. Its pages identify public sources such as the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, courts, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Criminal Justice Information Services, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. Outside search services may also be linked.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use must remain lawful and must not interfere with the service or another person. A user agrees not to:

  • Violate a federal, South Carolina, or local law
  • Stalk, threaten, harass, or harm another person
  • Use the material for an FCRA-regulated decision
  • Gain unauthorized access to a system or account
  • run a scraper, bot, or other automated extraction tool
  • Disrupt access or place an unreasonable load on the service

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information reached through this resource may not be used to intimidate, stalk, threaten, harass, or unlawfully discriminate. South Carolina registry data is provided for public safety awareness. Misusing that information against a listed person may be a crime, including under South Carolina Code Section 23-3-510.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This site does not create consumer reports and is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. Site content and linked partner results may not be used to decide credit, employment, housing, insurance, eligibility, or any other matter governed by that law.

  • Do not use it to make a credit decision
  • Do not use it for employment screening
  • Do not use it for tenant or housing screening
  • Do not use it to set insurance eligibility or price
  • Do not use it for another FCRA-regulated purpose

When law calls for an official check, follow the responsible agency’s SLED or authorized fingerprint process and the governing statute.

5. No Legal Advice

The content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how a Charleston County charge, warrant, conviction, or expungement law applies to one person. A licensed South Carolina attorney should address that question.

6. No Warranties

The service and all content are supplied “as is” and “as available.” No warranty is made that:

  • Every fact, record route, fee, or office detail is current
  • Access will be continuous or error free
  • The service will be free from harmful code or security defects
  • A partner result will be accurate, complete, or properly matched

Government files change as charges, dispositions, corrections, restrictions, and expungements are entered. Confirm important facts with the Charleston County or South Carolina custodian.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to government sites, courts, legal resources, or outside search providers. Those destinations control their own content, availability, prices, and data practices. Use of an external service is subject to its own terms, not these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, site text, graphics, branding, and code belong to Charleston County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, modified, distributed, or used to create a derivative work without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent South Carolina law permits, the site and its operators are not liable for losses or damages arising from use of the service, reliance on content, or use of a linked provider.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to defend and hold the site and its operators harmless from claims, demands, costs, and legal fees caused by that user’s conduct, misuse, or violation of these terms.

11. Governing Law

South Carolina law governs these terms. Any dispute related to site use must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in South Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

These conditions may be revised. A revision takes effect when posted here, and later use is governed by the current version.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be suspended or ended, with or without notice, when necessary to protect the service, enforce these terms, or address misuse.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be limited only as needed and the remaining terms will continue in force.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be routed through the Contact page.
